12km north of Miranda Holiday Park is Kaiaua and Kaiaua Fisheries. Open daily from 9am till 8.30pm. Famous fish and chip takeaway, basic sit-down restaurant. There’s also an old style pub next door with evening meals too. Also for boaties, a handy ramp to firth of Thames habour across the road.

70km, 1 hour drive. Tairua is popular with charter and fishing boats. Take your own boat or grab the passenger ferry across to Pauanui, which has one of the best beaches in NZ.
