Sustainable Tourism

Miranda Holiday Park is an active member of The Coromandel Sustainable Tourism Group since 2010. This is a group of 40+ like-minded tourism operators who recognise the value of the region's incredible natural and cultural setting. All group members are required to undergo an annual site visit with a regional Sustainable Tourism Advisor, and to develop an action plan on how to improve on the businesse's sustainability. As a visitor to our region you can recognise businesses such as Miranda Holiday Park, who are undergoing these efforts by looking out for our group logo.

For further information please contact the region's Sustainable Tourism Advisor, Lexie Sandano, on alexia.sandano@xtra.co.nz.

We are also a Qualmark 4 Plus Star Holiday Park and part of the Qualmark assessment is Responsible Tourism. We currently hold an Enviro Silver award for our sustainability.

Mission statement

We are privileged to live and operate our business in the beautiful Hauraki Plains and Firth of Thames area, and would love it to stay this way for all to enjoy. We are active members of the Coromandel Sustainable Tourism Group, and committed to Sustainable and responsible tourism techniques and practices.

Sustainability initiatives

  1. At Miranda we attempt to divert as much waste from landfill by having recycling stations around the park.

  2. We monitor waste, water, electricity and gas on a monthly basis.

  3. Our on-site sewerage system is closely monitored by management at Miranda Holiday Park as well as externally by Environment Waikato.

  4. We consider the supply chain and always attempt to purchase sustainability sourced goods and products for the business.

  5. We have an on-going relationship and commitment to both local and national charities and community groups.

  6. We have a native tree sponsorship initiative to promote New Zealand’s flora and fauna

Things you can do to help

As a visitor to our area, we hope that you will assist us to preserve the uniqueness of  Miranda holiday park and our region of New Zealand through some simple, but important actions to make your visit more sustainable:

  • Seek out businesses that are committed to a sustainable future such as those like us in the Sustainable Tourism Charter or the likes of GreenGlobe, Eco-wise etc.

  • Spend more time at each destination – the distances that we typically travel contribute to our ozone depletion

  • Never take or damage the flora & take care not to disturb wildlife in particularly fragile environments. Always stick to the trails or tracks

  • Respect the customs of tangata whenua (people of the land) by becoming aware & acting responsibly

  • Reduce your waste! Many products can be re-used or recycled. Wherever you stay, ask for the recycling station

  • Implement water conservation where possible

  • Turn off lights and appliances where possible

  • Hang out washing to dry rather than use dryers

  • Ask about Sponsoring a tree

  • Ensure that you use the correct dump sites for black & grey water (campervans & caravans). Please check if you are unsure

  • Dump no waste into our storm-water drains. These are drained directly into the ocean and are for storm-water/rain only!

Thank you for your support
