The Hauraki Rail Trail is one of the great cycle rides of New Zealand and can be accessed from Kopu/Thames, Paeroa, Waihi or Te Aroha. It is a 3-day bike ride for most or a 2-day ride for fit cyclists. There are also a range of shorter cycling options, including day rides, making it an ideal long weekend or weekend experience.

In approximately three to four years the Hauraki Rail Trail will be extended from Kopu/Thames to travel along State Highway 25 and then north along the Sea Bird Coast.
